I know the powers that be prefer that I stay away from controversy in my blogs. They’ll have to forgive me, because there is one age-old debate where I simply cannot let sleeping dogs lie. I’m not talking about political affiliation or religion. This isn’t what came first, the chicken or the egg. No. This is bigger. Far more important. What am I talking about? Pizza. Deep dish or NY style. With October being National Pizza Month, now seems as good a time as any to resume this great debate.

I am from Chicago. I was raised on deep dish pizza. I know that Duos is better than Unos, even though that they’re technically the same thing. As far as Chicagoans are concerned the only pizza debate is Uno’s, Gino’s East, Giordano’s or Lou Malnati’s. Yes, you need to eat it with a knife and fork. We’re not gonna apologize for bringing class to pizza.

I don’t even understand New York pizza. For a bunch of people who complain about having to use silverware to eat pizza, they sure do make a difficult slice to eat. Fold it? I don’t even like folding my clothes.

Regardless of which side of the spectrum they fall, people who don’t love pizza are few and far between. A full pizza pie is a team sport. One person can’t (or at least shouldn’t) put down a whole pie on their own. Use the idea that pizza brings people together in your campaigns. Spark the debate with your subscribers during National Pizza Month. Customize a template and share your thoughts. Perhaps you can create promotions for lovers of deep dish as well as one for the diehard NY style supporters. Most importantly, enjoy a slice or four this October for National Pizza month.
