Can the text version of an email include formatting?
The reason there is a text version of your email is so that those subscribers whose email programs do not handle HTML code can still read your message. The text version is almost entirely free from the coding included in the HTML version.

By choosing to include HTML tags in the text version, which is allowed, you run the risk of your subscribers possibly seeing the HTML tags if their email program rejects the code. For example, if you wanted to make text bold and typed in "This should be <b>bold</b>.", it may appear two different ways:
  • This should be bold.
  • This should be <b>bold</b>.
It is a good idea to review these tips for text only emails before you begin sending them to your subscribers.
