This is not necessarily a feel good article, but I believe that members of Slender Lady want the "straight scoop". When you joined your local Slender Lady you committed to taking charge of your life and making the necessary commitment to change your life for the better. Many of you have tried diet after diet and have lost some pounds only to regain more. I think its time that we begin to be totally honest with ourselves and to acknowledge the truth about what it takes to lose weight and keep it off.
Every month we receive emails from members that cry out for help! The standard thread that runs through the emails is, "HELP... I'm doing all the right things, but I'm still not losing the weight. After interviewing many of these people, I've come to the following conclusions.
The vast majority of the ladies ("non-losers") are not exercising 3 times a week at their local Slender Lady (if at all)! You cannot just depend on just decreasing your caloric intake and really believe that you are going to lose weight and be healthy. Slender Lady's program is designed to combine your protein, carbohydrate and fat (PCF) intake, so you have the energy to exercise and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle. Your Slender Lady Lifestyle Counselor will assist you in not going lower than 1300 calories per day and those calories must be PCF balanced and eaten approximately every three hours, if you are going to have the strength to live a healthy lifestyle. VERY FEW of our members reach their weight loss goals without exercising at their local facility for 30 minutes, three times a week!
If you're having trouble losing weight, just walking or doing fad exercises is not going to enable you to reach your healthy weight goal. Slender Lady's Body Sculpting Circuit is scientifically designed to burn the most calories possible in the shortest amount of time. You have to get serious about your health, if you're going to reach your goals. Your Slender Lady Lifestyle Counselor is your lifeline. She is there to provide support and encouragement and to provide you with the roadmap to healthy weight loss that will last you a lifetime. So if you're really serious about losing weight and are willing to do what it takes to get where you want to be you have to make your health and wellness a priority. THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES!
Many of our members who are serious about losing weight, follow the PCF nutrition program and exercise at their local Slender Lady almost every day. If you’re more than 25 pounds overweight and are having difficulty losing that weight, I would recommend that you do not miss any opportunity to exercise at least 30 minutes 3 to 5 times a week at the facility.
Next, most "non-losers" who say they are exercising and still are not getting results are not staying in the body fat burning zone (see your Lifestyle Counselor to determine your fat burning zone). Slender Lady's Body Sculpting Circuit combines weight training and aerobic exercise. The weight training portion of the program is critical to increasing your lean muscle mass which defines and sculpts your body. So focus on doing all you can on the circuit and you will lose body fat, look better, feel better and live longer.
In addition, many of the members that are having problems with weight loss are not keeping up with their daily food log. When they finally meet with their Lifestyle Counselor they find out that on an average they are eating an additional 500 to 600 calories more per day than they thought they were. It's easy to under-estimate your caloric intake, so talk to your Lifestyle Counselor and follow her lead as she helps you stay on track.
Finally, every "non-loser" wants instant results. Our program is scientifically designed to enable you to take off 2 pounds of body fat per week and to KEEP IT OFF. Without action there is no change and permanent change is learned behavior, so don't follow the "non-loser" and go on a trend diet that will only set you back in your quest for permanent weight loss. Remember, to get the support you need from your Lifestyle Counselor, she is your Angel on your shoulder!

Hi! I'm Mary Barron. As you can see (before and after pictures lower left), my appearance has changed quite a bit in the last year and a half. I've been a busy girl! But before I go into the juicy details, let me give you a little bit of history. Imagine a cute, vivacious little girl with a very outgoing personality. I also possess the genetics that cause a lifelong battle with a tendency to be overweight. Thankfully, I was also very athletic. During my adolescent years my activity level kept my weight somewhat in check. I'd say in high school I was probably about 20 pounds overweight (that's even with involvement in three sports a year!). When I graduated high school, I almost immediately got married and became pregnant. With the activity level way down, and the addition of all the physiological changes that accompany pregnancy, in a short time I gained about 70 pounds. Over the years that weight has slowly crept up because of not enough activity and the wrong diet choices.

In January 2002 I finally had enough! I wanted to be able to go on bike rides and hikes with my family. The weight was keeping me from doing these things. It was even hard to sit on the floor for periods of time with my kids. What a drag! I weighed almost 270 pounds! With the financial help of my wonderful mother, I was able to begin the process of weight loss and lifestyle changes with Slender Lady! My mother had been successful using the Slender Lady program. I was READY! The owner of the Slender Lady facility in our town put me on the Slender Lady diet immediately and I stuck with it. I began exercising at least three times a week at the Slender Lady facility, and walking or doing yoga at home on the days I was not able to get into the Slender Lady facility. I really enjoyed the "me" that was emerging as the weight came down. All the compliments I received, the encouragement and support my friends and family members gave me revitalized my desire for continuing this success. I have learned so much about nutrition and what my body's personal needs are through the Slender Lady program.

My greatest accomplishment has been the confidence I have fostered as I've lost the weight and learned how to care for myself. I want my children to remember their mother as a woman who had self-control and was interested in self-improvement, not a woman who could not do the things that she wanted because she was too fat. I believe the Slender Lady programs to be sound and encouraging. The things I have learned with Slender Lady I will continue practicing throughout my entire life. I love exercising and comparing notes with the other women at the Slender Lady facility. We are all so encouraging to each other! I have been able to see my achievement inspire other women to take control of their lives as well. This is an amazing feeling!

To date, I've lost 86.8 pounds and 94.5 inches all over my body, and my body fat is down to 42%. I'm not done yet! I have about 30 pounds to go and I can't wait to get started. I'll see you at Slender Lady! I'll be the one with the big smile on my face!

BODY SCULPTING CIRCUIT TIP

Question: Can I use the Body Sculpting Circuit more than 3 times per week?

Answer: Yes, you may use the circuit as often as you like. It is however, better to be consistently using the circuit 3 times per week as opposed to using it everyday for a few weeks and then missing a few days. Your body needs the regular routine as opposed to “hit and miss.”

For those of you just joining our program, welcome to a way of eating many have enjoyed for years. For those of you who have been with us for a while, you already know how easy this program is to follow, but remember, each week you learn something new. Don’t forget ladies, DRINK your water, EAT every three hours, DO THE CIRCUIT at least three times a week and you have the recipe for SUCCESS.

TIPS FOR EATING OUT!

Always ask for salad dressings on the side.

Remember if it says fried make another choice, baked, broiled, pan seared or grilled are better choices.
At an Italian restaurant, snack on a large breadstick instead of a slice of garlic bread. 
Headlines once again are announcing a major reconsideration of and reversal in women’s health care treatment. Support for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), the preferred medical treatment for menopause, was shattered by the American Medical Association’s termination of their long-term estrogen-progestin therapy study. Data produced from this study presented evidence of a direct correlation between increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke and breast cancer and the use of HRT.
Reconsideration of the HRT approach allows an additional re-evaluation to take place: Pharmaceutical Solutions (HRT) or Natural Alternative Solutions. HRT was predicated on several misguided concepts and myths of menopause. First, the natural process of menopause was categorized as an estrogen deficiency disease and a bio-marker of women’s emotional, mental and physical decline. Evidence points to the opposite: an excess of estrogen or an imbalance of the estrogen/progesterone ratio.
A second significant concept of HRT was the assumption that synthetic hormones are bio-equivalent to natural hormones. However, these synthetics are powerful steroid drugs that do not perform all the major functions of progesterone and demonstrate numerous potential risks and side effects. Validity of these concepts and myths are not to be found. Now women and their health care providers are free to treat menopause and it’s symptoms as a natural process of life.
Re-focusing on the natural life cycle process of women and hormones leads directly to an understanding and potential solutions to numerous debilitating menstrual symptoms. The complexity of women’s hormones and their influence on her physiological, emotional and mental process requires simplification. For brevity and clarity, the focus is on the balance between estrogen and progesterone. This balance or rather correction of an imbalance is the key to alternative care.
The presence of hormonal symptoms may represent an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone. Per-menopausal, menopausal and postmenopausal estrogen excess or “Estrogen Dominance” leads to many undesirable and debilitating symptoms. Most people have no idea how much water they should be drinking, and most Americans live from day to day in a dehydrated state. They don't drink enough water. Without water, we would be poisoned to death by our own waste products and toxins resulting from metabolism. Water is vital to digestion and metabolism, acting as a medium for various enzymatic and chemical reactions in the body. It carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells through the blood, regulates body temperature and lubricates our joints (which is particularly important if you're arthritic, have chronic muscular-skeletal problems or are athletically active). We need water to breathe; we lose approximately one pint of liquid every day just by exhaling.
If you are not in "fluid balance" you can impair every aspect of your body's physiological functioning. "As a result of not drinking enough water, many women encounter such problems as excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, decreased digestive efficiency and organ function, increased toxicity in the body, joint and muscle soreness (particularly after exercise) and water retention.
“Proper water intake is the key to weight loss," says Dr. Walters. "If women who are trying to lose weight don't drink enough water, the body can't metabolize the fat, they retain fluid, which keep their weight up, and the body fat loss we're trying to obtain is greatly hindered."
"The minimum amount of water a healthy woman should drink is 10 -12 eight-ounce a day," he continues, "and you need to drink more if you are over weight, exercising on the Slender Lady body Sculpting Circuit, or live in a hot climate. Overweight women should drink an extra eight ounces to ten ounces of water for each 25 pounds that exceeds their ideal weight."
Your water intake should be spread judiciously throughout the day, including the evening. You may ask, "If I drink this much water won't I constantly be running to the bathroom?" Initially, yes, because of the hyper-sensitivity of the bladder to increased fluids. But after a week or so, your bladder calms down, and you urinate larger amounts.
There is a difference between pure water and other beverages that contain water. Water is water. Obviously you can get it by consuming fruit juice, soft drinks, beer, coffee or tea. Unfortunately, while such drinks contain water, they also may contain substances that are not healthy and actually contradict some of the positive effects of the added water.
Beverages that contain caffeine, such as coffee, stimulate the adrenal glands; fruit juices contain a lot of sugar and stimulate the pancreas. Such drinks may tax the body more than cleanse it."
Another problem with these beverages is that you lose your taste for water.
The way to interpret all of this, therefore, is that the recommended daily water intake means just that--WATER!

PAINLESS WAYS TO CUT CALORIES
Eat a cup of nonfat yogurt instead of 1 cup of custard-style.
Eat 2 poached eggs instead of 2 fried eggs.
Spread 1 tablespoon of all-fruit jam on your toast rather than 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter.
Use 2 tablespoons of light pancake syrup instead of 2 tablespoons of regular syrup.
Replace 1 cup of whole milk with 1/2 cup of nonfat milk.
Replace 1/2 cup of granola with 2 cups of Cheerios. l Snack on an orange and a banana instead of a candy bar.
Munch on 35 pretzel sticks instead of 1 ounce of dry-roasted peanuts.
Replace a 12-ounce can of cola with a 12-ounce can of diet cola.
For a chewy snack, have 1/2 cup of dried fruit rather than 9 caramels.
