This week we started the first of what I’m hoping will become a new favorite on the Benchmark Blog. I don’t whistle while I work…it would probably drive my coworkers crazy. I listen to music, as do most of them. I’m going to put together a playlist each week. It came out this week on Valentine’s Day, because that’s the theme of the playlist. Look out for a new playlist each Monday moving forward. Here’s a Benchmark 5: extra songs for your Valentine’s Day playlist.
1.“Something” – The Beatles: They’re not on Spotify. I could have made a playlist just of Beatles love songs. I picked this, because it’s one of at least two famous songs written for the same lucky lady. George Harrison wrote this for the same woman that Eric Clapton wrote “Layla” for. True story. Thanks for being their muse, Pattie Boyd.
2.“Fool in the Rain” – Led Zeppelin: This song also wasn’t on Spotify, but I wanted to include it. There are actually a few really great Zeppelin love songs, though.
3.“Power of Love” – Huey Lewis & the News: “He’s been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.” – Patrick Bateman.
4.“Truly, Madly, Deeply” – Savage Garden: I probably (definitely) slow danced to this at bar mitzvahs. Don’t judge. Champagne snowball.
5.“I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” – Otis Redding: This man was lost less than six months after his performance here at the Monterey Pop Festival in ’67. Seriously make sure you watch this…at least twice.
Here’s the Valentine’s Day Spotify Playlist too:
