Holy Week, or Semana Santa in Spanish speaking countries, is the week leading up to Easter. It represents the closing week of Lent and includes Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. This goes a little deeper than Easter bunnies and painted eggs.

Sending out email campaigns for these specific days won’t be for every email marketer. For those in the religious sector, or others that may tie in, there is a respectful way to successfully execute an email campaign for Holy Week or its final three days. Customize a Semana Santa email template, and let your subscribers know your thoughts are with them during Holy Week.

To explain the celebration and details of the Semana Santa, the head of our Spanish Department Jose Hernandez contributed the following information on celebrating these holy days: “Each region in Latin America with religious fervor celebrates the Semana Santa in different ways, some very colorful and with a combination of local traditions.

Both Spain and Latin America observe the week with spiritual acts of sacrifice, friendship and love. Also, it is a perfect excuse for a week of summer vacation with family and friends. El Domingo de Ramos, or Palm Sunday, commemorates the entry of Jesus to Jerusalem that took Place over 2,000 years ago. It is traditional during that day to carry blessed palms, olive branches and laurel.

El Jueves Santo commemorates the Lord’s Supper, an event held in every Catholic church in Latin America. Thus begins the celebration of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Viernes Santo is a very respectful day of worship which marks the Way of the Cross: the last steps Jesus walked before his death.

During the Sabado de Gloria, an observance of respect and silence is held awaiting the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. This day is popular in parts of Mexico, Central and South America for performing baptisms. Easter Sunday or Domingo de Resurrección is the most important holiday for all Christians. They celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus: the fact that gives meaning to the entire Catholic and christian religion.” For more holiday and HTML email templates, follow the link to our custom newsletter page.
