Mas sim a que \u00e9 mais capaz de se adaptar.\u201d \u2013 Charles Darwin<\/i><\/p>\n<p>O primeiro email foi enviado h\u00e1 44 anos.<\/p>\n<p>O primeiro e-mail comercial usado para fins de marketing foi enviado em 1978 por Gary Thuerk, o ent\u00e3o gerente de marketing da Digital Equipment Corp. Tornando-se a primeira campanha de email marketing do mundo, sua ideia era promover as m\u00e1quinas da sua empresa para 400 usu\u00e1rios via Arpanet. Foi um evento inovador que fez a Digital Equipment Corp. faturar 13 milh\u00f5es de d\u00f3lares em vendas.<\/p>\n<p>Em 1991, a internet se tornou amplamente dispon\u00edvel para os novos sistemas p\u00fablicos de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o que surgiram, incluindo o \u201cHotmail\u201d. Um servi\u00e7o gratuito que deu a cada pessoa com um computador o acesso \u00e0 um novo territ\u00f3rio inexplorado do marketing. Ainda assim, a ado\u00e7\u00e3o e uso do email era uma novidade. Na pr\u00f3xima d\u00e9cada, o marketing ainda estava focado no cara-a-cara, no telefone, materiais impressos e sistema postal.<\/p>\n<p>A comunica\u00e7\u00e3o via email ainda estava na sua inf\u00e2ncia. A maioria das pessoas se comunicavam por meio do telefone ou mesmo pessoalmente. \u00c9 capaz que alguma rel\u00edquias dos anos 80 ainda enviam cartas ocasionalmente. Isso come\u00e7ou a mudar um pouco a partir do final desta d\u00e9cada.<\/p>\n<p>Em meados da d\u00e9cada de 90, as empresas mais passaram a confiar mais na comunica\u00e7\u00e3o via email como um complemento \u00e0s outras formas de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o tradicionais. Os comerciantes, no entanto, entenderam rapidamente. Caixas de entrada inundadas com lixos eletr\u00f4nico resultaram na introdu\u00e7\u00e3o da Lei de Prote\u00e7\u00e3o de Dados em 1998, que exigia que todos os usu\u00e1rios de email marketing inclu\u00edssem a op\u00e7\u00e3o \u201copt-out\u201d. O AOL serviu como uma ponte ao email para fam\u00edlias, tornando-o parte do dia-a-dia de todos aqueles com conex\u00e3o em rede. Mas a AOL fez mais que isso. Em 2004 eles come\u00e7aram a devolver as informa\u00e7\u00f5es do usu\u00e1rio para os Servi\u00e7os Provedores de Email. O Hotmail e o Yahoo rapidamente seguiram o exemplo. Era o in\u00edcio da coleta de dados.<\/p>\n<p>A mudan\u00e7a das tecnologias na d\u00e9cada de 2000 com o advento das plataformas sociais e dos smartphones mostrava como as pessoas estavam trocando o modo de se comunicar. Enquanto o email marketing ainda era o principal competidor, ele estava lutando para disputar a aten\u00e7\u00e3o em meio \u00e0s plataformas sociais. Redes sociais e email eram dois mundos diferentes.<\/p>\n<p>O salto evolutivo em e-mail marketing realmente chegou nos \u00faltimos cinco anos. O email teve que se adaptar em quatro diferentes formas de modo a espelhar a mudan\u00e7a criativa e social que estava acontecendo digitalmente. O email agora precisava ser bem projetado; ele precisava entender as redes sociais, integrando as estrat\u00e9gias sociais com estrat\u00e9gias de e-mail; ele precisava de intelig\u00eancia de marketing responsivo e de marketing de proximidade, testes A\/B, e segmenta\u00e7\u00e3o; e precisava ser abrangente, e se adaptar \u00e0 forma como as pessoas est\u00e3o se engajando. E isso e muito mais foi feito. De fato, o email se saiu bem com as redes sociais em termos de uso e convers\u00e3o.
