HP Slashes Their Tablet Price by $400<\/h3>\n

Okay, I admit it. I was one of those blind & hungry piranha-like consumers that swam the merchant rivers trying to get my bite of that fire-sale-priced, recently discontinued tablet called the HP Touchpad.<\/p>\n

What? You don\u2019t know what I\u2019m talking about? You mean you didn\u2019t line up 50 people deep at 9 AM at your local Best Buy because you\u2019d heard that HP\u2019s answer to the iPad was marked down from about five hundred bucks down to less than a Benjamin?<\/p>\n

So This Blogger Thinks He Needs One<\/h3>\n

Never mind that I\u2019m supposedly an Apple fan boy, and that the Touchpad was being abandoned by its maker just a few months after launching. If it was good enough for the thousands of fellow bargain hunters of slickdeals.com and fatwallet.com, then it was good enough for me.<\/p>\n

I Found Mine at Barnes&Noble.com<\/h3>\n

I struck out time and time again both online and in line. And just when I was ready to give up for the fifth time, I struck gold at the Barnes & Noble website. The 16 gig Touchpad was online, available and soon in my cart\u2026<\/p>\n

Tap, tap, tap, tap. Click. Bang. \u201cYour order is on the way.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I was so happy I could cry. This was better than scoring the last Tickle Me Elmo in Cleveland in 1996. This was more rewarding than arm wrestling that crazy grandma for a Cabbage Patch Doll in 1983. In fact, I remember thinking I might actually use this thing a lot when it finally arrives. All I gotta do is wait for the confirmation email\u2026<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Yay! There it is! Now it\u2019s going to ship. Wow, when it gets here, I\u2019m going to put on my Silly Bandz and surf the web for more crazy stuff. Oooh, that\u2019s a great looking email, by the way.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course, any email would have looked good at that moment. But this really was nice email marketing<\/a>. This is how you do it. Capitalize on the good news with some other offers. People are feeling giddy right now. They just might splurge on a Nook for their spouse.<\/p>\n

Sorry, We Messed Up. No Tablet for You.<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

So the next day I wake up to an email that informs me that I\u2019m not getting the Touchpad. Looks like the demand was higher and faster than their inventory system. Bummer. But at least this email looks good too. I love that it wasn\u2019t clinically white and plain. Maybe bad news goes well with beige. Really, if you\u2019re going to send a cancellation email, I honestly think this is the right way to do it.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s Where the Story (Doesn\u2019t) End<\/h3>\n

So I almost forgot my disappointment over being jilted at the $99 HP Touchpad altar by Barnes & Noble when I get another email\u2026<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Now, I don\u2019t care how good looking this email is. It\u2019s too soon, much too soon. I\u2019m still reeling from my shopping loss and this is like rubbing salt in my superficial wounds or trampling on my much too entitled soul.<\/p>\n

I have a new rule: If you can\u2019t fill my order, you also don\u2019t get to keep my email subscription. In fact, take me off yourself. Otherwise it all seems like a big bait & switch.
