Does anyone remember who Paris Hilton is? Okay, two people? Cool, it’s not just me then. Well, Ms. Hilton attended a Halloween party at the Playboy Mansion to remind the world that she is still alive and that none of her reality show descendants can perfect the hands-on-hips red carpet pose better than she can. Her choice of costume? Miley Cyrus at the VMAs, complete with two blonde mini-buns and a Hilton-esque bedazzled foam finger.

Paris Hilton and Miley Cyrus together in one entity?! This bizarre inception of fame-hungry celebrities is too much to handle! Then again, is it much of a surprise since the more crazy antics one does in Hollywood, the more famous he or she is? As of right now, the Kardashian clan and Miley Cyrus are taking over every news headline. Paris Hilton has been out of the spotlight for a while. I guess I’ll add her in anyways, since she was the one that starting this whole “famous for being famous” thing … and to give her kudos for her Miley costume.

Whether you love them or hate them, you have to admit that these girls are masters at marketing themselves and landing on covers of every tabloid magazine. It’s not just something a PR expert knows how to do. It’s all about interacting with fans and creating their own signature looks.

Social media
There are speculations that celebrity Twitter/Instagram accounts jumpstarted the selfie duck-face phenomenon. Miley posts at least three times a week, Paris posts maybe every other day and the Queen of Selfies, Kim Kardashian, posts at a rate of one every three hours. When they’re done with that, they would post what 4-star dish they are eating, their Mercedes-Benz limo that is taking them to their private jet … that is taking them to their luxury resort in the Bahamas where they will shoot their commercial for so-and-so energy drink.

Teenage girls are just obsessed with these tidbits of glamorous celebrity lives and maybe feel that by following their social media accounts, they get to live vicariously through them too. These stars have brilliantly operated their accounts to promote their latest projects too. The Kardashian clothing line, Miley Cyrus’s album, Bangerz, and Paris Hilton’s … umm … various endeavors, have seen tremendous success because they give sneak peeks to their fans. This kind of exclusive relationship encourages fans to support their beloved stars even more.

Branding
Without seeing a single photo, you can already visualize these stars’ appearances by merely thinking about them. Each star has taken years to solidify their trademark looks and brand. Paris Hilton is usually covered in pink from head to toe, with splashes of diamonds dangling on every limb and her Chihuahua Tinkerbell tucked under one arm. The Kardashian sisters almost always wear their long dark hair loose and parted in the middle, cheetah-print everything, heavy gold jewelry and with dark smoky eye makeup, because they are exotic Armenians, duh! Miley Cyrus’ image is a new one. Hannah Montana who? Nowadays, she ‘twerks it’ in a fuzzy bear jumpsuit with her hair in tiny pigtails with background dancers dressed as flowers and mushrooms, because being a creepy adult baby is hot (her words, not mine).

These images are pop culture icons on their own. Girls have begged their parents for a small Chihuahua so they can carry it around like the Hilton heiress, there are hundreds of YouTube hair tutorials on how to recreate the ‘Kardashian’ waves and the word ‘twerk’ was recently added to the dictionary primarily due to Cyrus’ memorable VMA performance. Crazy how seeing certain dog breed, hairstyle or dance move can all be traced back to a certain famous person.

So there you have it. It can be widely disputed if these girls are talented enough to be as famous as they are, but you have to admit that they know what they are doing when it comes to marketing themselves!
