Honoring a Nation and Its History
Japanese National Foundation Day Template
On February 11, Japanese celebrate the founding of Japan and its Imperial line. One of the four major holidays in Japan, Foundation Day was first observed during the Meiji period in 1873. It commemorated not only the crowning of Emperor Jimmu but the transition from a lunar to a Gregorian calendar. However, it was banned during World War II and was not nationally recognized again until 1966. Today it is not celebrated with much fanfare. It is a time to raise the Japanese flag and reflect on Japanese citizenship.
