Women’s History Month
Celebrate this March with a bold, custom email design
The origins of Women’s History Month date back to the early twentieth century. March 8, 1911 was the first International Women’s Day, a forerunner to women’s suffrage in the United States and celebrated throughout Europe as well. Unfortunately, the Depression and two world wars quashed the momentum of the women’s rights movement until the 1960s. The domestic and educational dynamic changed between the 1960s and 70s, with a growing desire to learn more about women’s contributions to history and an even greater desire to join the work force. In the 80s, Congress established Women’s History Week to expand on the original International March 8 date, and in 1987, prompted by the National Women’s History Project, the week became the month we honor today.
