February is Black History Month. Thinking about writing this blog, it had me remembering what we did when I was in elementary school in the early 90s to honor Black History Month. We learned about the great civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. We learned about the barrier breaking Jackie Robinson and many other great people. A thought dawned on me after that.

There have been new things to celebrate since 1976 when Black History Month was first celebrated. There will be new people and achievements for our children and our children’s children to celebrate and honor as well. They will talk about the time our first black president was elected. Progress is always being made.
